RenuKrete
Granite Boulder Concrete Pool Deck Upgrade

A sprawling pool and spa deck in Pennsylvania, cracked throughout and long overdue for an upgrade is hand-sculpted into a bold Granite Boulder finish without tearing out a single slab.

PROJECT AT A GLANCE

Color Theme:                     Granite Boulder

Location:                            Pennsylvania

Main Issues:        Cracking Throughout

Surface:                        Concrete Pool Deck

What This Pool Deck Looked Like Before

On paper this property had everything: a large pool with a built-in spa, blue mosaic tile detailing, a diving board, river rock landscaping beds with ornamental grasses and shrubs, pathway lighting, and iron fencing around the perimeter. The concrete deck connecting all of it, though, had been cracking for years. Jagged cracks ran through multiple slab sections, including right through the spa steps and along the pool edge where the coping meets the deck. The surface itself was a plain, monotone finish that had gone flat and dull over time. For a backyard that had this much going on around it, the concrete was the one thing pulling it all down.

The Finished Pool Deck: After RenuKrete

Everything this backyard had going for it finally has the surface to match. RenuKrete's Granite Boulder finish covers the entire deck in a large-scale flagstone pattern with cool, light gray tones that pick up the blue of the pool tile and complement the gray siding of the house. The pattern wraps cleanly around the spa, flows over the steps, curves along the diving board area, and transitions smoothly where the concrete meets the composite deck near the house. The river rock landscaping, pathway lights, and ornamental grasses that were always there now look like they were planned around the new surface, not the other way around.

Project Overview

This Pennsylvania home features a well-developed pool area, with a large pool and built-in spa, blue mosaic tile detailing, a diving board, and a wide pool deck framed by river rock beds, ornamental plantings, pathway lighting, and iron fencing. A composite deck connects the house to the pool area, reinforcing the layout. While the surrounding elements had been maintained and updated, the concrete surface had not. Cracking had spread across multiple sections of the slab, some cutting through the center of panels while others followed and widened along expansion joints. Around the spa, the damage continued through the steps and along the edge where the tile meets the concrete, leaving the broom-finished surface looking flat and out of place against the rest of the space.

The entire deck, including the spa steps and all transition areas, was transformed using the RenuKrete Granite Boulder finish. The hand-sculpted flagstone pattern introduces cooler, lighter tones that align with the home, pool tile, and surrounding landscape, all completed directly over the existing concrete without demolition.

What Makes Granite Boulder Stand Out

 • Hand-sculpted flagstone pattern with natural variation in size and shape
• Light, cool gray tones that complement blue pool tile, gray siding, and neutral exteriors
• Clean transitions around spa steps, diving board mounts, and composite deck borders

• Soft, low-contrast finish for a balanced, dignified appearance
• Sealed surface engineered to resist UV, pool chemicals, and freeze-thaw cycles

Excellent job renewing our outdated concrete pool deck. Took care of cracks as well as uneven pavement slabs that were a trip hazard. Beautiful overall look!
