Hurricane Slate Concrete Pool Deck Upgrade
A beautifully landscaped New Jersey backyard held back by a stained, worn-out concrete deck; transformed with the bold, multi-toned Hurricane Slate finish sculpted from the original slab.
PROJECT AT A GLANCE
Color Theme: Hurricane Slate
Location: New Jersey
Main Issues: Staining & Surface Wear
Surface: Concrete Pool Deck
What This Pool Deck Looked Like Before
The surface was heavily stained and discolored, with dark patches of moisture and organic buildup spread across the slab. Cracks had formed near the wooden deck. The expansion joints had darkened and widened. In the shaded areas near the landscaping, algae staining had set in. It was a backyard where everything above the ground looked intentional and everything underfoot looked forgotten.

The Finished Pool Deck: After RenuKrete
RenuKrete's Hurricane Slate finish covers the full surface in a striking multi-toned flagstone pattern. The bold color variation gives the large deck a sense of richness and texture that a single-color finish couldn't achieve in a space this landscaped. The pattern follows every curve of the freeform pool, wraps around the built-in entry steps, navigates the narrow perimeter sections between the water and the ornamental grass beds, and transitions cleanly where the concrete meets the wooden deck and hot tub area. What used to be the weakest visual element of the backyard is now one of its strongest.

Project Overview
This New Jersey property features a freeform pool with built-in entry steps, surrounded by tiered planter beds, a stone retaining wall, ornamental grasses, a Japanese maple, and decorative iron lamp posts throughout the space. A raised wooden deck off the house holds a hot tub and seating area, while the pool deck wraps the full perimeter between the water and the surrounding landscaping. Despite the upkeep seen across the yard, the original concrete surface had been neglected. Heavy discoloration and dark moisture stains spread across large sections, with algae buildup in shaded areas near the retaining wall and planting beds. Cracks had formed near the base of the deck, and expansion joints had widened and darkened, leaving the broom-finished surface looking flat and out of place.
The deck was refinished by RenuKrete using the Hurricane Slate finish, introducing a multi-toned flagstone pattern with warm variations of tan, brown, and amber. The color palette aligns with the existing wood, stone, and surrounding landscape, creating a more cohesive surface across the entire space, all completed over the original concrete slab.
What Makes Hurricane Slate Stand Out
• Hand-sculpted flagstone pattern with natural variation in size and shape
• Multi-toned warm palette creates rich visual depth across the surface
• Sculpted to follow freeform pool curves, built-in steps, and narrow perimeter sections
• Warm, natural-toned finish for a relaxed, cohesive appearance
• Sealed surface engineered to resist UV, pool chemicals, and freeze-thaw cycles

Overall Renukrete was great! Meeting with the crew manager and doing a walkthrough in the beginning was helpful. Throughout the project the crew manager was informative and attentive. The project was completed in 3 days which was fantastic. The crew was very clean and made sure property and pool was taken care. After one month I am still very pleased with the pool patio. I am still in shock that this is an option for old concrete to be restored and become so pretty.

Great experience starting with working with Linda. She explained all aspects of the process and quickly responded to my texts and calls. The Team that came out were always on time, worked extremely hard and did an amazing job. We Love our new pool deck. It looks incredible, like a resort and we have received so many compliments from family, friends and neighbors. Would highly recommend to anyone looking to have their pool deck redone.
