Sandstone Concrete Pool Deck Upgrade

A Connecticut pool deck with heavy spalling and surface damage, resurfaced into a warm, beautiful Sandstone color theme Renukrete finish sculpted from the original concrete.

PROJECT AT A GLANCE

Color Theme:                                Sandstone

Location:                              Connecticut

Main Issues:                   Heavy Spalling

Surface:                        Concrete Pool Deck

What This Pool Deck Looked Like Before

The concrete deck was badly deteriorated. The top layer had spalled off across large sections, leaving rough, pitted patches with exposed aggregate. Near the pool edge, the surface was stained and breaking apart. The narrow perimeter sections along the garden beds were cracked and worn down. It was the kind of damage that made the whole pool area feel neglected, even though the gardens around it were clearly well-maintained.

The Finished Pool Deck: After RenuKrete

The pool area finally looks like it belongs with the gardens around it. RenuKrete's Sandstone finish brings warm, natural tan tones to the deck; a color that picks up the yellow of the house, complements the flowering roses and ferns along the borders, and feels like it was chosen specifically for this setting. The flagstone pattern wraps cleanly around the oval pool and slide, follows the narrow perimeter between the water and the garden beds, and covers the full patio area near the house. Every section that was spalling, cracked, or worn down is now a continuous, hand-sculpted surface that looks like natural stone laid by design.

Project Overview

This Connecticut property features a pool area framed by dense, well-maintained landscaping, with rose bushes, ferns, and layered perennial beds wrapping the entire deck. An oval pool sits at the center with a slide at one end, while a sloped lawn rises behind it. The setting was carefully maintained, but the original concrete surface had deteriorated significantly. Severe spalling had stripped away the top layer across large sections, exposing rough, pitted aggregate beneath. Damage was especially concentrated near the pool edge where moisture had repeatedly worked into the slab through freeze-thaw cycles, while narrower sections between the pool and garden beds showed cracking and staining. The condition of the concrete stood in stark contrast to the surrounding landscape.

The deck was refinished using the Sandstone finish, introducing a warm, tan-toned flagstone pattern selected to align with the home’s color and the surrounding plantings. The hand-sculpted surface restores continuity across the space, covering previously damaged areas and bringing the pool deck back in line with the rest of the property without removing the original concrete.

What Makes Sandstone Stand Out

 • Hand-sculpted flagstone pattern with natural variation in size and shape
• Warm, natural tan tones that pair with yellow, cream, and earth-toned homes.
• Seamless transitions at spa steps, diving board bases, and surrounding edges

• Warm, natural-toned finish for a relaxed, cohesive appearance
• Sealed surface engineered to resist UV, pool chemicals, and freeze-thaw cycles

What RenuKrete Homeowners Have to Say

From the initial consultation through the completion of the project we couldn't have been more pleased. What was great was that we had a vision of what we wanted. The finished product was better than we anticipated. Great company to work with and the gentlemen that worked on the deck were seriously fantastic.

Cary and Joe

The results of the Renu-Krete process dramatically updated our tired, old cement pool deck. The update was immediate, the process quick and the artwork very specific to our needs.

Virginia

The team that did the work on our pool deck was phenomenal. Very conscientious of our concerns, extremely hard working and respectful of the property and pool area in clean up each day. Really took the time to ensure we were happy with our choice and liked the shading that could be done with what they had. Really pleased with the outcome and have had nothing but positive comments about it.
