Holbrook is a hamlet and census-designated place (CDP) in Suffolk County, New York, situated on Long Island. The population was 27,195 at the 2010 census. It borders the eastern side of Long Island Mac Arthur Airport. The name �Holbrook� likely originated from a stream called either �Old Brook� or �Hollow Brook.� The area was part of the Islip Grange estate, acquired in 1697 by William Nicoll. In 1848, Alexander McCotter acquired 5,000 acres and platted the community. The St. John�s Lutheran Church, built in 1863, stands as the oldest surviving building from that period. Holbrook experienced significant population growth after the Long Island Expressway reached the community in 1969.
